Former Chelsea and Cote d’ Ivoire football star, Didier Drogba has entered into an agreement with the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and Cote d’Ivoire’s Ministry of National Education, Technical and Vocational Training (MENETFP) to promote digital literacy in Africa.
Drogba signed the agreement through the Didier Drogba Foundation (FDD) and hopes the initiative will help sensitize civil society organizations, citizens and development partners to prioritize digital literacy in their projects.
Dubbed the KALAAN initiative, it will aim to educate the target populations on development issues such as citizenship, health and financial inclusion through special digital literacy programs.
Drogba said, “I am proud of this partnership and the idea is to reach 10 million young people in five years in Africa.”
The MoU was signed at Cote d’Ivoire’s Ministry’s premises in the presence of Minister Kandia Camara, Didier Drogba, and ADEA Executive Secretary Albert Nsengiyumva.
As part of its 10 million people over the next 5 years African digital literacy goals, the initiative will also employ the use of new information technology, including smartphones with a special concentration on women and rural communities.
