Nigeria celebrates Democracy day today, May 29.
Democracy Day, a public holiday in Nigeria, is held annually on May 29. This public holiday commemorates the restoration of democracy in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, when the newly elected Olusegun Obasanjo took office as the President of Nigeria, ending the multiple decades of military rule that began in 1966 and had been interrupted only by a brief period of democracy from 1979 to 1983.
This May 29, 2015 is the day Muhammadu Buhari takes over as the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Inauguration event will take place at the Eagles Square in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
The Inauguration event is expected to attract dignitaries from all around the world. The President-elect Muhammadu Buhari won this ticket under the APC flag at the Presidential elections that took place on the 28th of March 2015. His platform was built around his image as a staunch anti-corruption fighter and his incorruptible and honest reputation
Muhammadu Buhari is a retired Major General in the Nigerian who was Head of State of Nigeria from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985.
