The five startups that emerged tops at the 2016 Demo Africa event that took place in South Africa yesterday are Strauss Energy, Sortd, ConnectMed, Solstice, Mediabox. They were selected from the 30 finalists announced in June this year. The finalists were picked from a record 723 technology startups from 27 African countries that applied to launch at the event.
These five startups will be heading on to Silicon Valley to pitch.

Solstice – Solstice uses data-driven approaches to help Nigerian homes be more energy efficient and find cleaner, reliable and money-saving solutions.
Mediabox – Mediabox is a hardware platform that allows you watch any video on-demand services, play anything from a USB/MicroSD, listen to streaming radio, surf and browse the net, even gaming and much more.
