Dell has announced it is ending support for the Mobile Connect app, which allows users to sync iPhone calls, SMS, and notifications to their computer. The software works on both iPhone and Android, but some of these features are new to the iPhone.
The company announced the end dates for its download (as well as the time it will be discontinued) on its support page. “Current users can continue to enjoy the benefits of the software until the regional discontinue date,” says Dell.
It is available on all Bluetooth-enabled Inspiron, Vostro, G-Series, Alienware, and Consumer XPS devices with Windows 10 or above.
This software requires the Dell Mobile Connect or Alienware Mobile Connect companion app to create a wireless PC-Smartphone integration.
With the app, Dell users can remotely interact with their mobile phone from their computer to reply to SMS messages, make and receive phone calls, and more.
Dell recommends uninstalling Dell Mobile Connect or Alienware Mobile Connect from both your Dell computer and mobile devices by the regional discontinue date. This frees up storage space and ensures an optimum device experience.
To uninstall the app from your mobile device, follow the app removal instructions from the device manufacturer.
To uninstall the app from your Dell computer, follow the steps below.
• Select Start, then select Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
• Select Dell Mobile Connect or Alienware Mobile Connect, then select Uninstall.
While Dell didn’t state any reason for the action, it looks like the company wants laptops or PC users to rely on alternative apps from Windows 11 with the same feature.
Windows 11 now comes with a Phone link app with the ability to sync user’s smartphone notifications, calls, allows for files transfers and more.
However, the Microsoft Phone Link does not support iOS, though Mobile Connect is compatible with iPhone.
In 2021, Intel acquired Screenovate, the company behind the Dell application. Why could be the reason why it is no longer supported.
The application may not be available, but Intel plans to bring Screenovate technology to Evo-certified PCs. This feature may be available later this year. Unlike Microsoft Phone Link, it can also support iOS devices.
