Decagon, a Nigerian software engineering and leadership training institute, founded by Chika Nwobi is partnering with the Edo State government to build a world-class tech park, the Edo Tech park, and train 15,000 people in Edo state to become software engineers over the next 5 years.
Edo Tech Park is a world-class software engineering hub for the Nigerian tech ecosystem. After training, many of the developers will continue living in the park to provide remote software development services to local and international companies.
The initiative was launched on the 15th of December, 2020 during an event themed, “Building the next generation of tech leaders.”
According to the Edo state Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, the programme is structured to build the capacity of Edo youths to fill the global supply gap of tech talent, adding that it will provide opportunity for foreign exchange earnings and boost the local economy.
According to him, “The Edo Tech Park project is an elaborate initiative to provide high-paying jobs to youths and build their capacity to compete globally for technology jobs. The State Government has strategically invested in infrastructure to ensure the success of the project, which includes stable electricity and broadband internet connectivity delivered through the fibre-optic cable network in the state.”
The governor further noted: “The Park is part of Edo State Government’s move towards plugging this gap and allowing her youths tap into this growing demand for tech talent globally. “This will open up opportunities for foreign exchange earnings, boost our internally generated revenue (IGR) and expand the local economy while also rewriting the narrative of being the hub for human trafficking activities.”
“The Park will be fitted with live-work apartments, training facilities, 24/7 power supply and reliable high-speed internet,” he assured.
According to Decagon CEO, Chika Nwobi, “Edo state will become the main base for our company. The “Live-work-play” tech park partnership will bring 120,000 jobs to the state, and scale our ambitions to make Nigeria a global tech hub.”
According to the terms of the partnership, the state government will provide the physical infrastructure while Decagon will provide the technical and organisational expertise required to produce the talents.
The first intake will be admitted in February, 2021 to commence training
