Google has launched YouTube Go, data-friendly app in South Africa. It was revealed in December 2017 that the app will be unveiled in the country of Nelson Mandela.
According to Google, “YouTube Go has been built from the ground up for the next generation of YouTube users, keeping in mind their needs, preferences, and aspirations so they can enter and fully access the world of video.”
The app features a simple user interface which lets it work when there is low, or no, connectivity.
YouTube Go also provides transparency in how users are using their data, added Google.
“With YouTube Go, we want to make it possible for everyone in South Africa to be able to discover and share videos that they love, regardless of their data consumption preference.”
YouTube Go is available from the Google Play store and will come installed on all Android 8.1 Go Edition phones.
The app is designed to give viewers an offline-first way to access YouTube videos. The app is designed to help users manage their data in such a way that they can control the amount of data usage while downloading or browsing online. The app was specifically designed for countries that fall into the emerging markets categories.
Coincidentally, Samsung also recently launched Samsung Pay in South Africa which makes the country a choice destination to move their product or service from beta stage to eventually launching the products.
