Some more distinctions are to come from Nigerian University students, and again, no more using ‘need some extra pocket money’ scapegoat for internet access to their parents for research and so forth, as there will now be offered free Wi-Fi access in their institutions, browsing will be absolutely free of charge. Many are going to wish were still back in college ‘Free Wi-Fi’.
Surfwella is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of indigenous 4G operator, Cyberspace Network Limited, and a veritable platform for social and cognitive computing.
Therefore, as part of its recently launched corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, Nigerian 4G Network operator Cyberspace Network has announced the offer of free Wi-Fi network, known as Surfwella, in all Nigerian universities. And they’ll be starting up with University of Abuja.
According to Surfwella’s Chief Marketing Officer, Olusola Bankole, the free Wi-Fi network will be mounted in UNIAbuja first before other universities.
Bankole notes that the service will be on “no payment, no subscription, no data purchase, and no need for modems basis.” Browsing is absolutely free of charge.
He says the company plans to roll the solution out at Lagos State University (LASU) in the next few weeks, which will be followed by College of Agric, Lafiaji and University of Lagos (Unilag).
Bankole says Surfwella is doing this as a way to give back to society, adding, “It’s our own form of corporate social responsibility. It is all about empowering the students to be globally competitive, and access to free Internet is the best way to empower the next generation.”
