The government of Ethiopia has announced that construction has become the third largest contributor to the nation’s GDP. This was disclosed by the country’s Former Urban Development, Housing and Construction State Minister Haile-Michael Teferra, while speaking at the 6th Addis Build International Construction, Construction Equipment and Technologies Exhibition.

The former minister said the sector now plays a major role in determining economic growth in the country.

Concerning the exhibition, he said it would be essential input for the emerging Ethiopian construction industry which ultimately fetches a huge benefit to the public in general.

The State Minister said that the government has given special attention to the construction sector as manifested through the establishment of an independent ministry in the formation of its new cabinet a few days ago.

In the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), due attention will be given to the transformation of the construction sector targeting manpower capacity building, implementing preferred technologies, new equipment and advanced construction materials, he added.

“In this regard, the exhibition is both timely and relevant due to the fact that we are just wrapping up GTP I and embarking on the second one,” he said.

He noted that such exhibition lay a foundation to build many bridges and bonds of friendship among Ethiopians as well as across the peoples’ of the world.

Turkish Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union Osman Yavuzalp on his part said that it is a good opportunity for Turkish companies to explore opportunities in Ethiopia.

The Ambassador said that various Turkish companies would join Ethiopia’s market and sustain their investment journey here in various sectors such as textile, cable and others as Ethiopia is registering fast economic growth to attain the goals of GTP.
