I got the Galaxy A10 but before I tell you just how I feel about it, kindly excuse my little rant.
It turns out that fixing yet another broken phone screen on my high-end phone doesn’t seem like a good financial decision at the moment. I am having to consider its impending lack of relevance despite all of its great features, especially in the light of new devices being introduced to the market.
The general phone culture is such that it is hard not to want something new. The designs change and the new features fast turns one’s old device to another bulky piece of metal.
In other economic climes different from Nigeria, I would probably trade my phone in at every new phone launch. Who doesn’t want all the foldable and wearable gorgeousness that the manufacturers promise and provide?
Well, since I am caught in this part of the world with other worries such as generating light and water by myself, I am forced to make well informed choices when it comes to apportioning funds for phones. More like, I am forced to cut my desires according to my spending capabilities.
While I am very aware of how much my limited cash resource is able to get me , I am always in the market to make sure that I get the best value for my money.
At the back of my mind, I am conscious that it is highly important that I factor in the fact that my children are automatic joint owners of my phone which is another major reason for wanting to stay out of the high end options for now. There is so broken screen that insurance can cover.
So, back to my original reason for this post, I got the #SamsungGalaxyA10. It sells for about 43,000naira to 44,000naira depending on the store. The GalaxyA10 was launched in April 2019 alongside the Galaxy A30 and A50 and it runs on the Android 9.0(Pie) which is the latest android version.
Considering how spoilt for choice I was in that price range; I considered the following points :-
- I was comforted in the Samsung name brand which in my opinion is synonymous to great product. I was let down a bit by its lack of fingerprint sensor which is a feature most phones boast of these days.
- Given how devoted I am to providing entertainment to my restless children who have mastered the art of running the batteries on their tablets and relying on my phone for support, I must commend the availability of the Kids’ Home feature on the Galaxy A10. This feature transforms the phone to a kid friendly device with loads of educational apps and even safe browsing. The experience is also customizable to be more age appropriate thereby providing an ultimate experience.
- I have had the phone for about a week now and I think that it has a great battery life. The battery is 3400maH and it can last an entire day with hours long of social media and other apps usage. I must warn you that it has no fast charging capabilities. A full charge from 0-100% takes about 3 hours.
- The GalaxyA10 weighs 168g which makes it very easy for me to type lying face up without having to feel like the muscles holding my wrist and palm together may give up on me. It also has a 6.2 inch screen size and a bezel less display that makes me not miss my high-end phone much.
- For the selfie lovers, the picture quality is not absolutely drop dead but it is very okay for the amount paid. The front camera is 5mp while the back camera is 13mp. I snapped this picture beneath while stuck in traffic yesterday and I think I may put it in for a photography contest. ?
All in all, I think it is great value for a phone I didn’t have to sell my kidney for.
