    Conference on wider and proper usage of ICT in 2015 General Elections underway in Abuja

    Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja is hosting a two-day international conference on the wider and proper usage of information and communication technologies (ICT) for the 2015 General Election.

    The theme of the conference is “International Conference on Promoting Free, Fair and Credible Election in Nigeria and the role of Information and Communication Technology”.

    Speaking on the conference, the Project Director of the Democratic Governance for Development (DGD) Project, Dr. Mourtada Deme, said the conference is conference is put together to provide technical and financial support to the nation’s electoral body – the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholder that would be involved in the conduct of the highly anticipated general elections holding next year at polling stations across Nigeria.

    Dr. Deme said: “The Project provides technical and financial support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Civil Society Organizations, and institutions such as the Media, National and State Assemblies, and Political Parties, as a means of strengthening accountable and responsive institutions, and consolidating Democratic Governance in line with international best practices.”

    The international conference will end tomorrow and a communiqué is expected to be released at the closing session.
