Uber will now face stiff competition in East Africa from Fone Taxi, a ride-hailing app which recently launched in Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda.
Fone Taxi hopes to change the way passengers travel by offering safe, secure, reliable and fast travelling.
Commenting on Fone Taxi’s entry into the countries, Dennis Tongoi who manages the Kenyan franchise said: We have 120 drivers on the platform. We give the drivers an app and the drivers pay just 15% of their earnings. We will soon be adding motorcycles and Tuk Tuk.
Fone Taxi will be welcomed in Kenya especially as Uber has faced a severe backlash from taxi operators who accused Uber of offering affordable ride services that have led to low patronage of their taxis by passengers.
