Is it because of the success and the acceptability of Black Panther globally or is it just me thinking out loud?
Whatever or whichever, Comic con is finally coming to Africa. It is an event organised by Comic-Con International: San Diego, which is a nonprofit educational corporation dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for, comics and related popular artforms, primarily through the presentation of conventions and events that celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture.
Originally showcasing primarily comic books and science fiction/fantasy related film, television, and similar popular arts, the convention has since included a larger range of pop culture and entertainment elements across virtually all genres, including horror, animation, anime, manga, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics, and fantasy novels.
It began in 1970 when a group of comics, movie, and science fiction fans — including the late Shel Dorf, Ken Krueger, and Richard Alf — banded together to put on the first comic book convention in southern California.
Comic Con Africa will be hosted by Reedpop and VS Gaming at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit & International Convention Center from 14th to 16th September.
