Veteran IT professional and Founder of Codeplus Software Academy, Abiodun Oke wishes to train 10,000 Nigerian youths in Software development by 2020. He made this assertion at the recent launch of Nigeria’s first free software academy with the tagline, #TheJourneyIntoTomorrowBeginsToday, on the 1st of October 2015 at Otaru house, off Ikosi road, off CMD road, Lagos.
The launch event which coincided with Nigeria’s 55th independence anniversary celebrations took place and was attended by top IT professionals and industry captains
Codeplus Software Academy has adopted a unique training style known as The Apprenticeship Training Approach where the students are apprentices while learning the software engineering craft. Hence, beyond teaching the technology, best practice and process, the training is 100% practical and project based, and all faculties are software engineers with extensive development experience.
“Codeplus Software Academy’s vision is to make Nigeria a Global Software Development and Outsourcing hub, and by 2020 we want to have trained 10,000 youths, Our mission is to create wealth and employment by empowering youths with software engineering knowledge”, says founder, Mr. Abiodun Oke.
“We have identified 4 main areas of software engineering that we want to focus on, which are UI/UX design and development, Mobile app development, Enterprise/Web app development, Bigdata Analytics. We are starting with full time intensive training and over time introduce other flexible options”, enthused Mr. Oke.
The veteran IT Professional believes that growth of startups and enterprise in technology industry can only happen if there are youths with grounded knowledge in software engineering in Nigeria. He noted that universities in Nigeria have not been able to provide adequate knowledge in software engineering to computer science graduates, as there has also been many barriers including cost and convenience in learning to code today. Codeplus Software Academy was established to overcome these barriers.
At the end of every training batch, students will have the opportunity to secure employment as intermediate level software engineers at leading enterprise and startup firms as well as innovate solutions ready for suitable investors.
In addition, students are provided with free lunch and snacks with paid monthly allowances as incentives to stay focused on the training program.
