The high cost of rent is sometimes a real challenge for a lot of Nigerians. At the same, there are those who have got available spaces and are looking to make money with it.
Co-tenant was launched to connect these group of people.
Launched in December 2017 by Kolawole Bilewu, Co-tenant is a Space-sharing marketplace connecting users who either need a small space to stay or wish to share rent with other users. As a space owner, you can offer an empty room or space in your apartment, office, store or shop and make money doing so.
According to the Kolawole, “At Co-tenant, we believe property rental should be cheap, fun and safe for an average Nigerian who stays far from workplace or travels a lot and looking for a way to save cost of lodging in a hotel, and have built this platform to ensure it is. This is not another short let service. It is simply regular people using their resources in a smarter and convenient way.”
To use the platform, users looking for available space simply search for the kind they are looking out for based on categories. For those that have space to share, they select the listing plan that works for them and list their available spaces on the platform.
Co-tenant is a great idea that would be highly valuable to millions of Nigerians, but one drawback is the fact that an average Nigerian would find it hard to embrace the idea of sharing their apartment with strangers due to security concerns. The Co-tenant team, however, seems to have it under control. According to the founder, “the Co-tenant community is safe, as we have in place different verification levels for all members and a dedicated support team to monitor activities on the platform”.
