A new feature “Replay” has arrived for Clubhouse hosts and moderators. On both its iOS and Android apps, the platform is promoting this new tool that will allow content creators to record an audio room so that anyone who misses the ‘action’ in real time can listen to it later on. The feature was first announced by Clubhouse at the end of September, and it has been in development ever since.
With the Replay feature, audio chat sessions can be optionally recorded LIVE as they take place and then stored to a club or user profile for later viewing. The replays can be downloaded and shared outside of Clubhouse, “as a podcast, a YouTube clip, an Instagram story, a TikTok video, or anywhere else.”
The launch of Replay will also include support for pinned links, a feature that Clubhouse previously offered to allow moderators to display a relevant link at the top of a room’s page in Replay. The person who is listening to a recorded session will also have the option of skipping to the next speaker, listening at 1.5 or 2x speed, pausing the recording, and taking 30-second chunks of the conversation.
The creators of clubhouses can check who is listening to a room’s Replay after the live room has ended, allowing them to interact with other people who were not present during the live room. Beginning next week, replays will appear in Clubhouse’s existing discovery tools, such as search, in addition to the existing discovery options. In addition, the firm is developing a “total room count” function to provide hosts with more meaningful information on how many people listened to a certain room over the course of time.
It’s now possible for folks who don’t often attend live audio events to make use of Clubhouse as a podcast discovery engine by having the audio rooms they’ve previously recorded play again. In addition, it’s probable that content creators will be pleased to know that their best work will be available to a wider audience once the live room has ended.
