Social audio app Clubhouse on Thursday announced it is rolling out four new features: Clips allow users to record; Replays allow users replay conversations; Universal Search – an improved search function and Spatial Audio for Android . These are two of the four features launched today. The other two features are Universal Search and Spatial Audio for Android which makes community members feel like they’re more immersed.
The new features will make finding and sharing rooms, creators, and clubs easier for users. These features are coming a week after the company launched Wave, a feature which allows users to virtually wave at friends within the app to indicate that they are available for a private conversation.
Clips will make it easier for creators to share great moments and grow their audiences on Clubhouse. It enables users download 30-second clips to share on social media or other platforms. Clips will be on by default for open/public rooms, and creators can toggle them off anytime but it is not available for private, social or club rooms.
Users can share Clips of a show to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, iMessage, or WhatsApp — and even save them to their camera rolls for quick editing first. Clips is rolling out in beta to a small group of creators starting today.
Replays allow users replay conversations. Replays make content easier to create, get discovered by others, and grow audience over time. To create Replays, creators can enable this feature when they enter a room. If the feature is on, the room will be discoverable on Clubhouse for as long as creators like — and available for them to download and share anywhere. Replays is expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
Users will enjoy the privilege of an improved search function, tagged Universal Search, to help them navigate the audio rooms for live and scheduled chat sessions with the launch of this new feature. Clubhouse stated that the number of average rooms created daily continue to climb, increasing from 300,000 beginning of May to 700,000 at the end of September. So With the this new search feature, users will be able to search for people, clubs, live rooms, and future events more quickly to discover any breaking news or interest and to find rooms about specific things happening globally.
Universal Search started rolling out on iOS and Android today. For the first week or two, it will stay in the Explore tab while the community provides feedback to continually improve the search results. Thereafter it will move to the hallway.
Spatial Audio, the feature that makes community members feel like they’re more immersed in the conversation or room they’re listening to by making the speakers sound like they’re spaced throughout the room, is being introduced to Android users to further enhance the audio improvements for all users. Content creators on Clubhouse will also benefit as it will increase their audience time.
Paul Davison, Clubhouse’s co-creator and chief executive in an interview said, “Right now it’s too hard for (creators) to grow. Anytime you help create a great moment or there’s a good quote, you can share that out far and wide, alongside a link that tells people where to go to join that club.”
