Audio-only app, Clubhouse, is now out of beta and now free for everyone to subscribe to. It is no longer invite-only. This announcement was made by co-founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth. Since its launch in March 2020, Clubhouse was invite-only. To join, an existing member had to invite you.
This means the company has removed its waitlist system which has about 10 million people waiting to be added.
Speaking about the journey so far, the company said that the team has gone from 8 people to 58 while the number of daily rooms has grown from 50k to half a million. 10 million people have also been added to the community since the Android version launch in mid-May 2021.
Clubhouse has also launched a new logo and a new website to celebrate the new beginning.
Some days ago, Clubhouse launched its text-based chat feature, Backchannel on iOS and Android. Users can have one-on-one chats, group chats, and also send links during conversations. Over 90 million DMs have been sent since its launch.
Clubhouse had a phenomenal rise out of nowhere during the COVID pandemic lockdown such that other social media giants like Facebook, Spotify, came out with similar apps to take advantage of the ride.
