Clubhouse, the one-year old social media audio app, is rolling out a payment feature for creators to get paid.
Valued at $1 billion, this is the first payment feature that is being added to the app that focused on first building the community and audience. However this was expected as the company already mentioned that it was seeking to add payments for creators when it got more funding from Andressen Horowitz.
According to the company behind the app, “All users will be able to send payments today, and we’ll be rolling out the ability to receive payments in waves, starting with a small test group today. Our hope is to collect feedback, fine-tune the feature, and roll it out to everyone soon.”
Clubhouse is an invitation-only audio-chat social networking app launched in 2020 by founders, Paul Davison and Rohan Seth. Since its launch, the app has been a phenomenal hit and has been downloaded over 13 million times despite having only an iOS version.
It has been so successful that other social media companies like Facebook, Linkedln, Spotify are planning to roll out Clubhouse clones.
How the payments work:
- To send a payment in Clubhouse, just tap on the profile of a creator (who has the feature enabled) and tap “Send Money”.
- Enter the amount you would like to send them. The first time you do this, you’ll be asked to register a credit or debit card.
- 100% of the payment will go to the creator. The person sending the money will also be charged a small card processing fee, which will go directly to our payment processing partner, Stripe. Clubhouse will take nothing.
Clubhouse says that this is the first of many features that allow creators to get paid directly on Clubhouse and it will continue working hard to help the amazing members of the Clubhouse community grow and thrive
