    Choosing between safety and privacy

    0
By Paul Adepoju on April 1, 2016 Exclusive, Internet

One of the high moments this week was the announcement by the FBI that they’ve been able to access the iPhone of one of terrorists that was killed. They believed the device would give some insights into how the terrorist carried out the act of terror that left several people dead. It was an end to a series of arguments between the company and Apple Inc which was reluctant to help the security bureau with the aid.

While Apple and others argue that privacy through data encryption should never be compromised, security officials across the world often believe that everything should be done to ensure safety and they believe access should be given to a source of information that could keep everyone safe.

Even though the debate over safety and privacy will not end anytime soon, it is good to note that it is already happening and many Africans are also contributing – even though the governments and security operatives here are still accessing everything they want before being questions, but they will, very soon.
