Choice Hotels International, a leading American multinational hospitality company with nearly seven decades of industry experience, is set to make its debut on the African continent. The group announced plans to open three hotels in Kenya by 2026, marking its first footprint in Africa and signaling a major step in its global expansion strategy.
The expansion includes:
- Ascend Collection Hotel in the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations.
- Clarion Hotel in Nairobi’s bustling Central Business District.
- Quality Inn, also located in Nairobi, catering to both business and leisure travelers.
This move is spearheaded by Aniket Shroff, a U.S.-based franchisee partnering with Choice Hotels for the first time on an international venture.
Pat Pacious, President and CEO of Choice Hotels International, said:
Entering Africa is an important milestone in our journey and presents a unique opportunity to bring our world-class hospitality to one of the continent’s fastest-growing hospitality markets.
Pacious emphasized that the company’s strong performance in recent years has positioned it for global expansion into new regions. He revealed that Choice Hotels has signed a master development agreement to scale its presence across sub-Saharan and Southern Africa, with plans to open at least 15 additional properties by 2030.
Why Kenya? Market Potential and Growth Outlook
Industry analysts have long highlighted Kenya’s attractiveness for hospitality investment. In April 2025, Bani Haddad, Founder and Managing Director of Aleph Hospitality, cited:
- Economic stability and strategic regional positioning.
- A 35% surge in international arrivals.
- Growth in Kenya’s middle class and disposable incomes, fueling demand for premium hospitality services.
Kenya’s hospitality sector is a key contributor to GDP, employment, and foreign exchange earnings. Market projections show hotel revenue reaching $308.25 million in 2025, with an expected rise to $406.63 million by 2030, representing an annual growth rate of 5.70%. This trajectory underscores Kenya’s growing appeal to global hospitality brands like Choice Hotels.
