A new Chinese detergent Ad has just just been published and it is being condemned for its racist connotations. The name of the detergent is Qiaobi (俏比).

    Now this is what happens.

A black painter with a dirty shirt flirts with a Chinese lady. The black man then leans towards the lady for a kiss and she puts a detergent capsule in his mouth and pushes him into a laundry machine.

The Chinese lady then sits on top of the machine while the man spins and screams inside the machine. Thereafter out comes a Chinese man with a clean shirt.

CNN reports that this video has been causing a lot of outrage from Chinese people and the wider web. “My god,” wrote one user on Weibo, China’s version of Twitter. “Don’t Chinese marketing people get any education about race?”

“If you don’t understand why it’s racist, congratulations, you’re a racist,” wrote another, after some commenters tried to defend the ad.

Interestingly, there was a similar Italian detergent Ad which did a similar Ad where an slim Italian man is washed with “color” detergent and emerges a muscular black man with the slogan “Color is better.”

Though there has been no official statement from the company behind the ad, what do you think?

Straight talk. I tell it like it is. Obvious but elusive. I do love technology and marvel comics/films. No you can't see me. I am like "The Stig" in Top Gear or like Lagbaja. Now you see me, now you don't
