China has partially blocked the popular messaging service WhatsApp which may have been prompted by a major leadership reshuffle in the country later this year.
Users of the app reported that they could not send photo, video and voice messages but text messages were not affected.
This is similar to when Chinese authorities first banned Google’s Gmail in 2014 before instituting a total blackout.
The only way they could circumvent the censorship filter is to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
