Cellulant, a leading Pan-African payments technology company, has successfully integrated Telcel Cash as a new payment option for Google Play users in Ghana. This strategic partnership enables Google Play customers to link their Telcel Cash wallets and make purchases using mobile money, a significant step in a market where the use of international credit cards is not widespread.
Both Cellulant and Google recognize this initiative as a way to boost app usage and downloads in a region where traditional card penetration is relatively low. With Africa at the forefront of the mobile money revolution, which boasts a market exceeding US$1 trillion, the continent continues to be a pacesetter in global financial innovation and adoption.
Kevin McDaid, who oversees partnerships for Google’s payments platform in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, highlighted that the expansion of payment options in Ghana and other regions is part of an effort to create a more inclusive purchasing experience for Google Play users.
The integration of Telcel Cash in Ghana signifies the inaugural collaboration between Google and Cellulant in the region.
Richard Gesimba, Vice President of Cellulant’s Checkout Business Unit, shared the company’s enthusiasm about their pivotal role in streamlining payment processes for Google Play. This development not only empowers thousands of Ghanaians to access a variety of services but also aids in expanding Google Play’s reach within the African market.
