As promised last year by CEO ‘Bosun Tijani, Co-Creation Hub has launched a design laboratory in Kigali, Rwanda. The launch took place early this week and was streamed on the organisation’s Facebook page. It was officially declared open by Rwanda Minister of ICT and Innovation, Paula Ingabire.
The design lab is set to become a leading creative space in Africa’s growing tech sector. It is set aimed to solve Africa’s systemic problems in Public Health, Education, Governance and the Private Sector.
“What the CcHUB Design Lab is about is bringing design into the way public agencies and large corporations think about implementation and use of technology to solve significant problems in the society,” says Bosun Tijani in an interview with CNBC Africa.
When asked Why would a Nigerian based organisation set up a design lab in Rwanda? He said that Rwanda has built a solid ecosystem that gives one the chance to be creative. “And the design lab is a research and development unit …it is a place with young creative talent, designers, software engineers, product developers..and we wanted a place in Africa that can inspire creativity and I think Rwanda has built that platform for anyone that is willing to create solid innovation to take advantage of this. And the infrastructure in this country means that Rwanda can easily serve as a test lab for us”
Bosun also confirmed that CcHub is willing to invest $11 million in the activities of the lab in Rwanda. Focus will be on designing technology solutions for systemic problems in public health, education and governance.
