A captivating resume sells a job seeker, creating a positive impression of the candidate to the potential employer (s)even before an interview is scheduled. However, one of the problems many job seekers face is drafting one that sells hence we have many brilliant graduates roaming the streets as a result of unconvincing or poorly created resumes. However, that is about to be a thing of the past as Careerlyft is set to be launched to help create beautiful ,job landing and convincing resumes.
Innovation Village recently met with the Co-Founder of Careerlyft ,Godwin Benson who in this interview gave insights into the platform and its relevance to the labor market and work force.
Can you tell us about careerlyft and what it has to offer?
CareerLyft offers a suite of tools to help people get their dream jobs faster.
With the platform, you can easily create beautiful, job-landing resumes tailored to your industry, and apply for jobs in minutes, in a way that catches the attention of employers and gets them excited to meet you.
CareerLyft also manages the application process by notifying you when employers read your application, and automatically follows-up on your behalf to ensure you get the interview, as well as compiles specific interview tips for your desired company to help you pass the interview.
We are currently in pre-launch phase from January 9th 2018, to launch fully in February. The platform is currently run myself and two of my friends, Joseph Adebayo (CEO) and Kelechi Nwosu (CTO).
What motivated the setting up of Careerlyft?
In early 2015, I wrote an eBook titled “How to Get a Job Without Applying Like Everyone Else” which addressed areas like writing a great CV, understanding and selling your strong points, and how to contact employers directly. The eBook was distributed freely and downloaded by thousands of people.
Consequently, I received a lot of positive feedback, and testimonials of people who had gotten jobs by following what was shared in the book.
Given these stellar results, my co-founders and I thought about how we could leverage technology to amplify these results and help many more people get their dream jobs faster.
What has the traction been like since its launch?
CareerLyft is currently in its pre-launch phase where people can register to get early access, follow our progress and win a free resume template when we launch fully.
So far, almost 600 people have signed up in less than 10 days. The full version will be available from February.
What is unique about the services the platform has to offer?
First, CareerLyft helps you create great resumes in minutes by providing well-written examples that are relevant to your industry and job role, so you never have to worry about what to write.
We also provide attention-grabbing templates that are carefully designed to make your resume catch the eye of employers in less than 5 seconds. Candidates can invite friends to help review/improve their resume, measure their suitability for a job role based on their skill level, and get help to pick up new skills.
CareerLyft also tracks job applications, notifies candidates when their application has been read, automatically sends follow-up notifications and curates company-specific tips to help candidates prepare for the interviews.
In addition to these, we provide a platform for employers to easily find, test and connect directly with their preferred candidates without the hassle of reading through thousands of applications.
What advice do you have for prospective entrepreneurs out there?
My advice to prospective entrepreneurs is to stop ‘prospecting’ and get on with their ideas! Find a need/problem you feel inspired to solve, understand the need, and create a solution in the simplest way possible. Test, measure, iterate and learn continuously.
Also, for Africa where most people have low disposal income, I think entrepreneurs should solve problems that people already pay for in a form; and focus on creating a superior and more scalable solution.
What are the future plans for CareerLyft?
We hope to help millions of people get their dream jobs faster, as well as grow CareerLyft to become the primary way people around the world create their resumes, and apply for jobs.
