German Car Manufacturer, Volkswagen has issued a recall covering close to 6,000 vehicles about failing child locks. The affected vehicles includes the 2016 Passat CC ( builts between January 12 and February 3, 2016), 2016 e-Golf ( builts between November 2015 and January 11 2016) ,2016 Golf R and the 2016 Tiguan (builts between November 25 2015 and January 28 2016).

It was found out that vibrations coiuld cause the childlock to engage and disengage. This means that any child in the backseat could open the door when grabbing the door handle. Volkswagen promised to replace the child locks on each affected vehicle. There is no specific time as to when notifications will be sent out. The child lock issue is not a good news as Volkswagen is till facing the diesel gate scandal as regards cheating emissions. They are actually preparing to pay about $15 million in emission scandals. For those who dont know what a child lock is, It is a feature on the backdoor that prevents that happy kid from opening the door from inside. VW says a molding problem caused the locking mechanism to be improperly manufactured causing the position retaining mechanism inside the door lock to break. According to Volkswagen, the only warning a driver may have is a change in the feel of the rear locks. According to statistics from Car complaints, Volkswagen customers had in the past complained of numerous electrical problems of their models and this could be a setback for the company who wants increase their market share in the auto industry.

VW dealers will need to replace the rear child door locks in the affected vehicles, but until then owners may call the automaker at 800-893-5298 and ask about recall number 58C9.
