It was first released for Facebook on the 12th of April 2012 and then released for smartphones 7 months later. And as of March 2013, Candy Crush Saga surpassed FarmVille 2 as the most popular game on Facebook, with 46 million average monthly users.
According to Distimo’s blog on the top global apps in September 2013 released recently, it is still within the top grossing apps for the month. This has been the trend in recent months. And Time says people spend $650,000 a day on it from users spending money on premium features like unlocking new levels.
The game is just about asking users to match sets of colorful candies into groups of three or more in order to clear the board. No more, no less.
Why would a simple game be so addictive? Tami of Medium.com offers her own thoughts of this. One of her reasons is that “Candy Crush Saga hits all the buzzwords when it comes to being a social game: it’s viral in nature, retains its players, offers up deeper social interactions that investors love to hear about, is integrated with the social network behemoth Facebook, and literally requires friends to help each other to progress.” She also says that it is available everywhere.
