It is being rumoured that MTN Nigeria is planning to launch a music streaming service called MTN Music+. The incumbents (Spinlet) in music streaming business in Nigeria have been struggling to make good money from this. They seem to be in it hoping that it would be a profitable business in the nearest future. See Rotimi Fawole’s opinion in “Cracking digital music in Nigeria“. Has MTN ingeniously developed a new business model to crack this business? Maybe it wants to bring its learnings from MTN Play already existing in South Africa. But I must say that MTN has revolutionalised the music scene by engaging most of the A-list artists as ambassadors. And it expects that these ambassadors might be loyal to exclusively make their music available on this platform.
MTN Music+ is a round-the-clock exciting way of music streamlining, music sharing, play-listing, especially Naija music. It is expected that with MTN Music+, you can manage your personal mobile music library, streamline directly to your mobile devices, enjoy offline streaming as well for zero data needed!!!
Though it is in still beta testing phase, techcabal says the app will allow you choose between streaming and offline download. Offline downloads will cost N50 per download.
It is rumoured that the app will be launched sometime this month.
