The African healthcare sector has received an open invitation for participation in the fourth cohort of the Home Grown Solutions Accelerator for Pandemic Resilience, an initiative hosted by AUDA-NEPAD.
The Home Grown Solutions Accelerator has been strategically established to bolster the African healthcare landscape by expediting the development of native healthcare businesses. This aligns with the overarching vision of the African Union’s Energize Africa Initiative as well as its Agenda 2063—both centered on fostering sustainable growth and empowerment across the continent.
Through this initiative, companies operating at varying stages—from fledgling startups to growth-stage ventures and well-established firms—receive customized support designed to enhance their capacity and impact. The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) has launched and championed this accelerator in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), an extension of Japan’s commitment to international development aid.
Since its initial pilot phase in 2021, which saw the nurturing of five East African healthcare businesses, the initiative has gained significant momentum. The accelerator broadened its horizons in 2022 to encompass the entire African continent, providing assistance to 14 different ventures in its second edition. The growth continued into its third phase in 2023, with support given to an additional nine enterprises.
Over its operational years, the accelerator has supported various notable businesses in the healthcare sector such as DrugStoc, MDaaS Global, Revital, Rology, Sinapi, and Zuri Health. With its enduring commitment to advancing healthcare solutions, the accelerator now calls for fresh applications, inviting a new cohort to join its ranks and contribute to Africa’s pandemic preparedness and resilience.
Applications are open here until May 14.
