ALX, a renowned provider of technology skills training, aims to educate 750,000 African youths this year, with a goal of 10% of this figure based in South Africa.
Since 2021, the training and career accelerator has provided digital skills instruction to over 85,000 students, with 85% of its graduates successfully attaining employment.
The ICT industry is rapidly pushing to empower local youth with the vital skills to address the sector’s skills deficit and equip them for future roles. IT experts emphasize the necessity of cultivating opportunities for growth and job creation, focusing particularly on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics skills, as they are anticipated to play a vital role in creating employment openings for jobless youth.
ALX South Africa’s GM, Divesh Sooka, notes that with Africa being one of the world’s regions with the fastest-growing and youngest populations, the continent possesses a unique opportunity to address the worldwide technology talent gap.
“Our country is full of vibrant and passionate young talent that have the potential to address the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution, while at the same time embracing a future-proof career in some of the most in-demand jobs in the world.”
ALX is an African technology training provider that equips young individuals with crucial technical skills and soft skills, setting them up to excel in the global digital economy.
In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, ALX aims to reshape Africa’s future by helping two million young professionals secure meaningful employment opportunities by 2030.
Available digitally or at its tech hubs located in Braamfontein and Sophiatown, Johannesburg, ALX’s syllabus encompasses important soft skills. These include a focus on coding, Amazon Web Services, and Salesforce skills.
“Access to education is a key to success,” says Sooka. “Our goal is to empower our youth to become adaptable digital leaders, thereby enabling them, our nation, our continent, and indeed the rest of the world, to prosper in the era of digital transformation.”
