In order to guard against being swindled, cheated or buying fake goods, OLX has urged prospective buyers of products displayed on its platform not to pay in advance. In an exclusive interview with Lola Masha, Country Manager for OLX in Nigeria, she said one of the ways by which Nigerian users of OLX have a safe and wonderful transaction is to only pay after they have thoroughly inspected the item being put up for sale.
“It is always best to trade in person. This is because users will have the opportunity to inspect the item thoroughly before paying for it,” she said.
She also advised buyers to ensure they know what they are buying.
“Get as much information on the item, by asking the seller questions, and keep these records. In case of electronic goods, cars and bikes you should test the item. Compare prices from similar products on OLX to judge whether a price is fair,” Masha told Innovation Village.
She also advised buyers to meet sellers at a public place; even at that, she said it is advisable to bring a friend along.
“Always meet at a mutual/public place like a fast food restaurant and it is advisable to bring your friend with you who can be your second eyes when inspecting the item,” the country manager said.
She said OLX is constantly innovating so that users can trade safely and successfully on the platform.
“We are currently making improvements on the site to ensure that our users have a great experience when using OLX,” she told Innovation Village.
