Brave Software has officially announced a major milestone: its privacy-focused web browser now serves over 100 million monthly active users across desktop and mobile platforms worldwide. This achievement marks a significant moment not just for the company, but for the broader movement advocating for a safer, more user-centric internet.
According to Brendan Eich, Brave’s visionary founder and CEO, this milestone reflects a broader shift toward user empowerment online:
100 million users represent more than a growth milestone, they constitute a movement for a better Web that puts users first. Across the globe, users are choosing privacy and control over their online experience, instead of Big Tech’s tracking and abuse.
Brave’s growth has been consistent and impressive, with the company averaging 2.5 million new users per month over the past two years. In addition to its monthly active user base, Brave now boasts over 42 million daily active users, a figure that reflects strong user engagement and loyalty.
The company attributes this surge to increasing global awareness of privacy issues and the availability of alternatives to traditional tech giants. Brave’s browser is built on Chromium, ensuring full compatibility with Chrome extensions and web standards, while offering enhanced privacy protections out of the box.
According to Brave, the surge in users is driven by a growing desire for privacy and speed:
This growth has been fueled by a global awareness that Brave is an alternative to Big Tech and that users benefit greatly from a browser that preserves their privacy and is up to 3 times faster than competitors.
Recent regulatory changes have also played a role. Following the implementation of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and the release of iOS 17.4, Brave saw a 50% increase in daily installs on iOS in the EU, thanks to the new browser choice panel that gives users more freedom to select their default browser.
Beyond its browser, Brave has expanded its ecosystem with products like Brave Search, which it claims is one of only three truly independent search engines in the Western world, and the only one not owned by Big Tech. Brave Search now handles 1.6 billion queries per month, totaling nearly 20 billion annually, and delivers over 15 million AI-generated answers daily.
Looking ahead, Brave is preparing to upgrade its Leo AI assistant with a more agentic experience. True to its mission, this will be done in a way that preserves user privacy, using isolated browser profiles to prevent cross-tab data access.
Brave stated:
As a privacy company, we pride ourselves on adhering to a stronger variation of Google’s old (and since abandoned) mantra. When we say ‘Can’t be evil,’ we mean we don’t have access to personal user data in the first place.
Brave’s commitment to transparency is further demonstrated through its Privacy Preserving Product Analytics (P3A), which is fully open-source and available for public review.
