#BrandWars: Sterling Bank pokes at other banks with new ad

By Staff Writer on July 22, 2018 Adverts, Africa, Banking

Sterling Bank, one of commercial banks in Nigeria, released a new ad this week which seemingly throws shade at some of the bigger banks – Union Bank, First Bank, Access Bank and Guaranty Trust Bank and this has brought about epic clapbacks.

As can be seen in the ad image below, the ad shows an individual on a rocket towards the moon represented the Sterling bank logo. It also shows another person on a horse representing Union Bank, another on an elephant representing First Bank and another in a jail representing the Guaranty Trust Bank logo. The last one depicting Access bank is subtle; it shows a person with a bow and two separate arrows with the orange arrows on them.

Three of the banks – Union Bank, First Bank and Access Bank have responded.

    And First Bank’s response

What an elder sees while sitting, a child cannot see even if he travels to the moon. #RespectYourElders #YouFirst

    Access Bank’s reponse

We will travel on an imaginary rocket too, if we were a one-customer Microfinance Bank; but with ten million customers and counting, we rather bring the galaxy to you! #YouAreWorthIt #TakeTomorrow #KnowYourElders pic.twitter.com/pBGuW8JaLo

I wonder what Guaranty Trust Bank will respond with. Let’s wait and see

However here are some tweets about the whole episode.

Sterling Bank: Innovative Ad that threw shades at other Banks

First Bank: Swept it away with "Sho mo age mi"

Union Bank: Eats Jibowu pancakes while watching another "Berger to Ajah" trip

Access Bank: Gave a micro shade

GTBank's response will be the dopest. The only issue with that is that you should expect them to send you a debit alert as soon as they respond. || Acct: ****5129
