Bradwin Roper, a veteran in the financial services industry, has been named the new chief of payments partnerships at Jumo, a company specializing in banking technology. In addition to this role, he will also serve as a member of the executive committee. Roper’s new position at Jumo will be effective starting November, as announced in a recent statement.
This appointment comes shortly after the news last week that Roper would be resigning from his position as the fintech CEO of MTN, with plans to leave MTN SA at the end of October. At that time, it was hinted that Roper was set to pursue a new venture, which has now been revealed as his role at Jumo.
In a statement released today, Jumo outlined the responsibilities that Roper will assume in his new capacity. He will be instrumental in helping the company achieve its ambitious growth targets by strategically shaping its payment partnerships. Roper’s focus will be on expanding and enhancing service delivery for existing partnerships, which includes collaborations with entities like MTN. Additionally, he will be tasked with identifying and developing new opportunities within digital financial ecosystems, as Jumo continues to evolve and expand its services.
Bradwin Roper’s appointment as chief of payments partnerships at Jumo comes on the heels of the company’s announcement last year that Joe Mucheru, the former Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs, had joined as president of the organization.
Andrew Watkins-Ball, the founder and CEO of Jumo, expressed his confidence in Roper’s appointment, stating, “Brad’s background is a great fit for our mission. We are working hard to provide banks and payments companies with the technology they need to profitably serve customers at the lowest possible price.”
Roper brings with him a wealth of experience, spanning nearly two decades, in various sectors including financial services, telecommunications, technology, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), engineering, and manufacturing.
Prior to joining Jumo, Roper held the role of fintech CEO at MTN SA, where he played a pivotal role in expanding the company’s financial services throughout South Africa. Before his tenure at MTN, Roper was part of the leadership at First National Bank (FNB), serving as CEO of FNB Connect, the bank’s telecommunications and e-commerce division.
Reflecting on his new role, Roper shared his enthusiasm and vision, stating, “The work I have done over the past few years has sparked an abiding passion to make financial services more accessible through mobile and fintech platforms. I believe my experience and skills will benefit Jumo and their partners significantly in this new role, and most importantly, the everyday entrepreneur, labourer, caregiver or consumer working to realize financial opportunities in Africa.”
Roper’s extensive background and dedication to enhancing financial services accessibility align with Jumo’s mission to empower individuals and businesses across Africa through innovative financial technology solutions.
