Uber is testing the delivery of cooking classes and dining experiences through its on-demand food delivery app, Uber Eats, under a new Moments tab.
According to Forbes, in an email sent to San Francisco customers, Uber said customers could book Uber Moments for the next month, scheduled until November 17. The “Moments” Uber offered include the option to book a $75 class on making Chinese dumplings and a $55 five-course Nigerian dinner.
When asked about the pilot, an Uber spokesman told Forbes that “We’re always thinking about new ways to enhance the Eats experience.”
How it works
For now, the Uber Moments is limited to food but one expects that it would be extended to other Uber apps with different experiences.
Uber has been doing a lot to reduce its losses by streamlining its workforce and adding new business lines.
It recently did a global staff restructuring exercise which rendered about 1,185 employees jobless.
Some days ago, it launched its UberBOAT business in Lagos, Nigeria and is thinking of launching its UberBUS business pretty soon also in Nigeria. It also recently announced that it is in talks to acquire majority ownership of Cornershop, a leading online grocery provider in Chile, Mexico, and more recently in Peru and Toronto.
In September, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced that the company would be combining Eats and rides (alongside any other future products) into the main Uber app: “What we want to be as a company is the operating system for your daily life.”
