Rock band, U2’s frontman Bono is set to earn almost £1 billion from his Facebook shares.
Bono becomes richest Pop Star after a 2.3% stake he bought in Facebook for £56 million in 2009 has now matured to about £940 million. The shares were bought via the investment group that he co-founded, Elevation Partners, after Facebook went public.
Today that share is worth almost a billion pounds, according to reports. Before then, Bono had a net worth of about £500 million, meaning this single 6 year investment has earned him more than his whole 39 year music career.
With this recent development, Bono overtakes Beatles legend, Sir Paul McCartney as the world’s richest pop star. Paul McCartney is worth £730 million, while Madonna comes in next with £520 million.
