Bolt, the ride-hailing service, has unveiled its final 20 contenders for the Den accelerator program’s coveted Bootcamp phase. These drivers, hailing from Abuja, Lagos, Rivers, Kaduna, and Kwara, will present their innovative ideas on November 20, 2023, to a diverse panel of judges representing various sectors such as technology, banking, and education.
The selected drivers will have the chance to receive €2,000 in seed funding and participate in a 6-week business mentorship program as part of the initiative, which focuses on sustainable transport aligned with Bolt’s Africa City Vision.
The Accelerator Program, conducted in collaboration with The Nest Innovation Park, aims to support Nigerian drivers in developing business plans that align with Bolt’s vision. The top 20 drivers, emerging from the ideation phase, will be mentored by The Nest’s network of mentors leading up to the pitch day.
Ewoma Jerry-Ogeme, the Public Policy Specialist for Bolt in Nigeria, expressed enthusiasm for the drivers who made it to the Bootcamp phase, recognising their pivotal role in shaping the future of mobility. She highlighted the anticipation of witnessing the evolution of their ideas throughout the ideation process.
Paradise Okoronkwo, Programs Manager at The Nest, shared excitement during the induction of the 20 drivers into Bootcamp, commending their innovation, determination, and talent, which set them apart in the competitive selection process.
The Bolt Den initiative is set to conclude with a grand finale on November 21st, coinciding with the launch of a new study by the Oliver Wyman Mobility Forum on “Shared Mobility’s Global Impact” in Africa and Europe.
During this event, the top ten drivers with the most innovative ideas will be announced, and Dr. Andreas Nienhaus, Head of the Oliver Wyman Mobility Forum, will discuss the economic, social, and environmental impact of shared mobility, emphasizing its potential to contribute to ongoing development in African transport systems.
The Role of Policymakers and Investors in Sustainable Mobility
When we consider the positive impact of programs like the Bolt Den initiative, it’s crucial for everyone to actively back and participate in efforts that mold the future of eco-friendly transportation in our neighborhoods. The 20 drivers participating in the Bootcamp phase are not just presenting ideas; they are paving the way for a more environmentally conscious and technologically advanced transportation landscape.
To truly harness the benefits of these innovations, it is crucial for policymakers, investors, and the wider community to rally behind initiatives like Bolt Den, contributing resources, expertise, and encouragement. By doing so, we collectively participate in the creation of a more sustainable and forward-thinking mobility ecosystem that benefits us all.
