Bolt CEO Markus Villig has expressed the ride-hailing firm’s intentions to offer financing to drivers in Africa.

In an interview with the Kenyan Wallstreet, the CEO discussed Bolt’s strategy in the different markets it operates in, in Africa and Europe.

He said that the ultimate goal was to increase the number of driver-partners in Africa from the current hundreds of thousands and into the millions.

Villig explained that a larger number of drivers would enable Bolt to make transport more affordable for a rapidly growing African population.

Bolt has been used by close to 10 million people across Africa. This number is expected to go up in the years to come.

Bolt’s Europe strategy will shift to place most of the focus on its newer services such as delivery and courier services.

Bolt raised a series C round towards the end of 2019. Villig said Bolt will channel the funds towards expanding into new markets.
