BlackRhino VR, an extended reality (XR) tech company from Kenya, has introduced an augmented reality (AR) platform aimed at equipping content creators in the creative economy with the tools to swiftly create and publish AR content.
BlackRhino leverages XR expertise to widen opportunities for impactful socio-economic and cultural growth among young people, with the aim of generating employment, reducing poverty, and addressing Africa’s development challenges. The company collaborates with both local and international businesses to conceive innovative methods of content delivery.
The newly released platform, MediAR, is a user-friendly, AR cloud editor and publishing solution that employs drag and drop technology. This reduces the steep learning curve typically associated with coding, while facilitating the production of AR solutions and content.
Brian Afande, CEO of BlackRhino VR, stated that the launch of MediAR is a reaction to the demand for empowering Africa’s creative sector through AR.
Our primary objectives are to empower Africa’s youth, who are the innovators of the future, to broaden their skills set that allows them to scale up innovations as well as to democratize extended reality technologies in order to make them easily accessible so that ultimately, these immersive technologies can actively and positively contribute to Africa’s socio-economic development.
We also want to demystify the notion that Africa is only a consumer of technology and demonstrate that there are numerous innovative African technological solutions that are being developed to solve the continent’s challenges.
MediAR is designed with a revenue-sharing model built on a pay-per-view service, fostering an environment for content creators and brands to coexist in a digital ecosystem. BlackRhino VR is encouraging content creators across Africa to use the platform to stimulate the growth of an Internet economy. This, in turn, will create jobs, mitigate poverty, and contribute to the overall development of the continent.
