Black Friday is a day for shoppers worldwide – online and offline. As awesome as it is for companies and shoppers, some websites inevitably crash due to the sudden spike in traffic.
As we monitor sites globally, here are some sites that have crashed. Some are back up but some are still down.
Takealot is one of South Africa’s online shopping shop. It became erratic after Black Friday kicked off and crashed some hours after. As at the time of writing this story, it is still down. When you get to the site, you will get the message below.
The management is still working on bringing up the site. It’s been over 12 hours now.

CEO Kim Reid went on radio to apologize for the crash. He said his team is on top of it.
“We’re on top of it at the moment. We had a heck of a spike in traffic as we opened up at one minute past 12 this morning. We saw quite a number of transactions coming through. In fact, the transaction volume we had over the first hour has been larger than the first 6 to 7 hours we had last year.
GAME is TECH retailer based in UK. Its website crashed just hours after it launched it’s Black Friday deals – but it’s back up and running now.
The SUN reports that eager shoppers who were hoping to take advantage of the big deals as soon as they landed were temporarily left disappointed and angry.
The Express reports that DEBENHAMS website is not working for some users across the UK as the store struggles to cope with demand for its Black Friday sale. Debenhams is a multinational retailer operating under a department store format in the United Kingdom and Ireland with franchise stores in other countries
Other sites that have experienced difficulties at several times today include online fashion store Superbalist.com., Dion Wired websites across The Foschini Group (TFG)
