Bestman Games Limited the African distributor of customized editions of the Monopoly board game owned by Hasbro, a leading games manufacturer is collaborating with Corona Schools to commemorate her 60th anniversary with a customized Monopoly board. The Chairman of the Corona Schools 60th Anniversary Committee Mrs. Bimbo Joseph announced this collaboration, on recently at an Alumni event at Corona School Victoria Island.
In 1955, the Corona Women’s Society under the chair of Mrs. MacDonald decided to set up a nursery school that would provide education for children of expatriate parents who wished to keep their children with them during their early formative years. The standards of the school were to be the same as those available in the UK. The Corona Day Nursery Ikoyi, our first school, admitted its first students in 1955. It was located at 35, First Avenue, Ikoyi, now 35, Mobolaji Johnson Avenue. In 1959, the Corona Women’s Society transferred its assets to the Corona Schools’ Trust Council as a not-for-profit organisation established to hold in trust, the interest of the schools within the “Corona Family”.
Since then, the organisation has transformed with steady progression over the years and the focus of Corona Schools’ Trust Council remains the development of world-class schools. World class in all facets of operations – curriculum, teaching methodologies, staff quality, libraries, technology, buildings, resources, facilities, management and so on. We have sustained a unique culture of continuous school improvement initiatives over the years.
The Trust owns and manages seven schools at Apapa, Gbagada, Ikoyi, Ikoyi Day Nursery, Lekki, Victoria Island, and Corona Secondary School at Agbara, Ogun State. In addition to the nursery, primary and secondary schools, Corona Teachers’ College provides teacher education and high quality continuous professional development for teachers; all in the quest of Corona School’s mission to provide world-class education for children between the ages of 3 and 17.
The Trust intends to create a Corona School Commemorative Edition of Monopoly Game as a novel way of celebrating Corona School at 60. It is hoped that this product will be able to capture the essence of this outstanding educational institution with its unique customs and traditions and that the game will provide many hours of quality family entertainment for generations to come.
