Renowned data-driven utility platform, Bboxx, has officially relocated its global headquarters from London to Kigali, Rwanda. This unprecedented move was announced during the UK-Rwanda Business Forum, setting Bboxx apart as a unique startup that has chosen to move its headquarters from Europe to Africa.

Commitment to Growth: Training 1000 Rwandans and a USD$100 Million Investment

In conjunction with its relocation, Bboxx has unveiled ambitious plans to train nearly 1000 Rwandans over the next five years. Simultaneously, the company is set to make a significant investment of USD$100 million into the country. This substantial commitment aligns with Bboxx’s overarching goal to reach 36 million people by 2028 and is a result of its strategic partnership with EnerTech, as announced in December 2023.

    Bboxx’s Evolution Beyond Energy Solutions

Established in 2010, Bboxx initially focused on addressing energy needs, and over the years, it has evolved into a comprehensive platform providing essential products and services. These offerings now encompass clean cooking solutions, water pumps, smartphones, and electric vehicles.

Mansoor Hamayun, CEO and Co-Founder of Bboxx, stated, “This move to Kigali not only brings us closer to the communities we serve but also cements our commitment to be an Africa-first, data-driven super platform, transforming lives and unlocking potential at an unprecedented scale.”

Strategic Relocation for Enhanced Access and Market Presence

By relocating its headquarters to Kigali, Bboxx strategically positions itself at the core of Africa’s rapidly evolving energy and technology sectors. This move enhances its access to key markets and reaffirms the company’s dedication to being a data-driven super platform with a primary focus on Africa.

    Bboxx’s Recent Milestones and Expansions

This relocation follows a series of recent announcements by Bboxx, including its partnership with EnerTech, expansion into Burkina Faso, and securing a loan to ramp up clean electrification delivery in Togo.

    Bboxx’s Impressive Growth Trajectory

In the past 13 years, Bboxx has expanded into 11 African markets, establishing itself as a pivotal source of electricity for approximately 10% of Rwandese households. The company’s diverse product portfolio, including pay-as-you-go clean cooking energy, showcases its commitment to addressing varied essential needs in the region.

Rwanda’s Emergence as a Tech Hub

The choice of Kigali as the new headquarters reflects Rwanda’s emergence as a burgeoning tech hub in Africa. The country boasts business-friendly policies, including the Kigali International Financial Centre and an upcoming Start-up Act. Rwanda’s focus on fostering innovation and providing a conducive business environment aligns with Bboxx’s growth and investment aspirations.

    UK’s Role in the Partnership

As a Commonwealth member, Rwanda’s partnership with the UK has played a crucial role in supporting Bboxx’s move to Kigali. Omar Daair, High Commissioner to Rwanda, expressed the UK’s ongoing support for African innovation and their pride in being a part of Bboxx’s transformative journey.
