    BBM’s monthly active users in Nigeria hit 4 million

    The number of monthly active users of the BlackBerry Messenger application in Nigeria as hit 4 million while the figure for Ghana is 1 million, according to Riccardo Pasqualotto, Founder and Sales Director, The Mobi Hunter – the company in charge of BlackBerry messenger services in Africa.

    Speaking on Tuesday at the Mobile Marketing West Africa Focus Day, Pasqualotto said the multiplatform nature of BBM has made it to explode in Nigeria and the expansion has also reached Kenya, Ghana and South Africa.

    As a platform for mobile marketing, he said advertising can click out to client’s site directly, or BBM Channel.

    “Broad Channels can host branded content for users to consume. Channels are free for anyone,” he said.

    He also revealed some details about BBM users in Nigeria.

    The major interests are movies, TV and socialising. 80% use BBM for personal purposes while 20% of users are using the app for business. Furthermore, Mobi Hunter revealed 35% of users are on an Android phone and concerning ecommerce, 55% of BBM users in Nigeria have shopped online while 29% have university education.

    He also said 10% of BBM users in Nigeria earn more than NGN200 000 monthly.
