Even though 5G is much easier to get to now than it was before, its performance and dependability will probably keep you on LTE for a while. There’s hope, though, with the new Snapdragon X75, the world’s first modem-RF system by Qualcomm.
Snapdragon X75 has been tagged, “ready for 5G Advanced to drive the future of 5G in mobile and beyond”. The is designed to drive the next phase of 5G evolution enabled by 3GPP Release 17 and Release 18 features.
You can expect vast enhancements in data transfer speeds, network breadth, signal strength, and the ability to manage multiple streams of traffic. Even on crowded networks, you could see noticeable velocities increases, decreased interruptions, and improved functionality.
If you don’t need 5G Advanced but still want some of the benefits of newer chips, the Snapdragon X75 is a good option. Qualcomm asserts its technology has improved battery life and reliability in challenging environments like elevators and subway trains. It also supports simultaneous dual data transfer on two SIM cards at 5G/4G speeds. The upload speeds have been improved, and now even Snapdragon Satellite is supported.
Samples of the Snapdragon X75 chip are currently available from Qualcomm to manufacturers, but we won’t see the first devices with this modem until the second half of the year at the earliest. If and when it does arrive, however, it will undoubtedly become widespread. In addition to being used in iPhones, the company’s modems are the standard in all Snapdragon-powered Android devices.
The more important question is probably when you will start to see the benefits. Although the 5G Advanced standard is expected to be released in 2024, it could be some time before your carrier starts using it. The Snapdragon X75, nonetheless, provides the necessary infrastructure for widespread use. When the time comes for you to use the service, you may already have a phone that is compatible with Advanced.
