September 28 2015 will be the first day since early 1999 that Jon Stewart will not be hosting The Daily Show. It will be the turn of South African comedian Trevor Noah.
How will the American public take to the South African comedian? Will he be able to fill in the shoes of the great Stewart that has won twenty-two Primetime Emmy Awards with this same program?
The Daily Show is an American late-night talk and news satire television program, which airs each Monday through Thursday on Comedy Central and, in Canada, The Comedy Network. Describing itself as a fake news program, The Daily Show draws its comedy and satire from recent news stories, political figures, media organizations, and often aspects of the show itself.
Stewart announced on February 10, 2015, during a taping of The Daily Show, that he would leave the show before the end of 2015, but assured fans that he was not retiring and suggesting that he would continue writing and may return to stand-up comedy or as a part-time correspondent. Stewart’s final show aired on August 6, 2015. Stewart took over from Craig Kilborn in 1999.
Noah joined The Daily Show in 2014 as a contributor. He made his U.S. television debut in 2012 on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and has also appeared on “Late Show with David Letterman,” becoming the first South African stand-up comedian to appear on either late-night show. Noah has hosted numerous television shows, including his own late-night talk show in his native country, “Tonight with Trevor Noah.”
Not many Americans know about Trevor Noah. However Trevor says “I want to be in a position where I get to start over fresh with some of these people, and try something new — a different approach where I don’t have any preconceived notions about how I should or should not feel about them.”

According to him, “I look at The Daily Show as a beautiful house that I’ve inherited.” “This is a beautiful house that’s been here for many years. It’s a landmark. And so what I’ll do is try and create it into the home of my dreams using my new family. So as time goes on, I’ll be breaking down a wall here, changing a color there, moving a counter over there.” A series of gentle tweaks, in other words — but “you’ll know that there’s a new person in the house because you’ll be complaining about the noise.”
