Developers, innovators, and entrepreneurs across the continent are invited to apply for the Hedera Africa Hackathon 2025, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at harnessing blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) to address Africa’s most pressing challenges.
This year’s hackathon, powered by the Hashgraph Association — a Swiss non-profit dedicated to accelerating global adoption of Hedera-powered solutions — and the Exponential Science Foundation, a not-for-profit organization promoting responsible technology adoption through research and innovation, seeks to empower the next generation of African tech talent. The goal: to drive economic inclusion and build a digitally inclusive future for all.
The hybrid event will combine online participation with on-site activations in over 20 African cities, targeting more than 10,000 participants from across 15+ countries. It offers a unique opportunity for developers, students, and entrepreneurs to collaborate and build decentralized applications (dApps) on the Hedera network.
Participants are encouraged to develop solutions across key sectors such as:
- Finance
- Healthcare
- Telecommunications
- Sustainability
- Agriculture
- Manufacturing
In addition to blockchain, the hackathon encourages the integration of deep technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, and Quantum Computing, fostering innovation at the intersection of emerging tech.
With a prize pool exceeding USD 1 million, the Hedera Africa Hackathon 2025 is not only a competition but a launchpad for scalable, impactful solutions that can transform communities and industries across the continent.
Applications are open here until September 30.
