Despite customer and governmental pressure, Apple has yet to remove the Lightning port from iPhones. Despite numerous reports that Apple might move to a USB-C port for iPhones, particularly after making the switch on the iPad line in 2018, the Cupertino giant has remained steadfast. According to famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this could change soon, as Apple’s 2023 iPhones may finally include a USB-C port. Take a look at the details below.
2023 iPhones Might Finally Come with a USB-C Port: Report
Reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently headed to Twitter to deliver some good news. “2H23 new iPhone will abandon Lightning port and convert to USB-C port,” Kuo wrote in a two-part tweet.
According to the analyst’s “recent study” with suppliers, USB-C could increase charging and data transfer speeds on forthcoming iPhones. You can see the original tweet posted below.
Kuo also stated that Apple’s ecosystem’s USB-C-related component suppliers are expected to “become the market’s emphasis in the next 1-2 years,” implying that Apple might ditch the USB-C port entirely by 2025 for a completely portless iPhone.
For the uninitiated, the only USB-C iPhone now available is the result of an engineer’s DIY hack. It’s worth noting that, except from Kuo’s tweet, there is no other evidence that suggests the same. According to 9to5Mac, this may not be the case because supply-chain reports vary in their accuracy. Nonetheless, Kuo appears to be secure in his decision. The rumored iPhone 15 is also likely to ditch the SIM card slot in order to make the iPhone completely wireless!
