Apps on Apple Store are expected to hit 5 million in 2020 with games leading the way according to recent report by app intelligence firm, Sensor Tower.
The report which sourced historical data from Apple App Store found that since it debuted in 2008, it garnered 5,000 apps. By the end of 2015, it attained 1.75 million apps and presently it feature 2 million apps across the world. It is expected to reach 5.06 million active apps by the end of 2020.
Interestingly, a key contributor to the growth of Apple Apps Store are new games. This is due to their popularity coupled with the fact that game makers release updates intermittently. This engage users most times.
According to the breakdown of the 48,231 news apps released in May, Sensor Tower discovered that 43 percent (21,000) were games while the remaining 22 categories accounted for the other 57 percent of new apps, with Education (2,472 apps), Entertainment (2,378 apps), Business (2,247 apps), and Lifestyle (2,225 apps) rounding out the top five in terms of apps added. Weather saw the fewest new apps in May at 134.
