Apple officially announced its editorial pick for its best apps of 2014. The Best iPhone App goes to Elevate Brain Training which has been downloaded over 5 million times since the “personal trainer for the brain” came out earlier in the year. It’s a free app, but requires a $5 monthly fee to unlock the whole range of brain games. The runner-up is, Hyperlapse, Instagram’s innovative image stabilizing video program. Apple’s iPhone Game of the Year goes to Threes, a wildly addictive $3 puzzle app.

The iPad app of the year goes to  Pixelmator, an app that has been around for some time now and only brought to the tablet recently.
