Apple and Google have officially confirmed reports of a groundbreaking collaboration that will integrate Google’s Gemini models into Apple’s ecosystem. This partnership aims to enhance the capabilities of Siri and other generative AI features in upcoming Apple products.
In a joint statement, the companies announced:
Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. These models will help power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri coming this year.
After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google’s Al technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users. Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple’s industry-leading privacy standards.
Apple first showcased a generative AI-powered version of Siri during WWDC 2024. However, in March 2025, the company announced a delay in rolling out major Siri updates, pushing the release to this year. Despite this, Apple has yet to publicly launch the enhanced voice assistant.
Earlier reports indicated that Apple explored partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic to bolster Siri’s capabilities. Currently, Siri can leverage ChatGPT for certain queries as part of Apple Intelligence. By June, speculation grew around Google as a potential partner, and by November, rumors suggested Apple might adopt a custom version of Gemini running on its Private Cloud Compute servers. Reports also indicated Apple could pay Google approximately $1 billion annually for this integration.
This collaboration marks a significant shift in Apple’s AI strategy, signaling a future where Siri and Apple Intelligence deliver more personalized, powerful, and privacy-focused experiences—powered by Google’s cutting-edge AI technology.
